This site is a free link exchange that is easy and free to use.

They claim that their goal is to

build one million unique back links across the web to this site. Unique meaning at least one back link to us from each domain giving our program one million inbound links from one million websites though commerce and trading.

They benefit greatly from so many sites linking to them, as you may or may not know Google and many other sites use a vast array of methods for indexing sites in ther searc engine. In short the more quality sites wit a link to your site the better ranking you get. Now I am not saying you should add you link to every site you can, content is king, and your placement of a link should be relevant to the content on the site or directory you are submitting your link to.

If you site is about widgets, don't add your link to a directory about fishing, unless of course you are linking to a specific fishing related widget page on your site. Again content is king, this site happens to allow you to create a subdirectory if you cant find a listing relevant to your site
